D.B Schmitt

Bianka und Daniel Schmitt winery is located in Flörsheim-Dalsheim, one of the most historically significant wine villages in Germany’s Rheinhessen region. Daniel represents the third generation of this family estate, which has undergone a profound transformation under his and Bianka’s leadership—shifting toward a biodynamic and low-intervention philosophy. Today, they cultivate approximately 16 hectares of vineyards, mostly on limestone, loess, and clay soils. The dominant limestone imparts a distinctive mineral structure, tension, and a delicate salinity that defines the entire portfolio.

Since 2012, the Schmitts have worked exclusively according to biodynamic principles (Demeter-certified), strictly adhering to a minimal-intervention approach both in the vineyard and in the cellar. Spontaneous fermentations, extended lees aging, and the use of neutral oak, concrete, and clay amphorae result in wines that are textured, energetic, and singular in their expression—often unfined, unfiltered, unsulfured or very lightly sulfured, yet always precise in character.

Bianka and Daniel produce varietal interpretations of classic German grapes such as Riesling, Silvaner, and Pinot Blanc, alongside skin-contact orange wines, oxidative styles, and uncompromising red cuvées made from Pinot Noir and Portugieser. They’ve also recently introduced their first vintages of Furmint, a grape to which Bianka feels a deep connection through her Hungarian roots. Every bottle reflects the vintage, the place, and the intuition behind it—honest, raw, and vibrantly alive. This is a winery for those seeking German wine with true character.
